Inside the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program

Posted August 1, 2023

An innovative partnership between The Ailey School and Fordham University, the Ailey/Fordham Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree is tailor made for students seeking world-class dance training and an exceptional liberal arts education. Here's what makes this exciting program a unique opportunity for aspiring students.

A Dual Program at its Finest

Throughout their four years of study, students train with world renowned instructors at The Ailey School in a wide variety of dance techniques, while also taking body work classes such a Gyrokinesis®, and learning dance composition and choreography. For their academic studies, students attend Fordham College at Lincoln Center, which provides a challenging liberal arts and science curriculum. By combining elite dance training with a prestigious education, every student that goes through the program comes out of it with a well-rounded education that will serve them greatly no matter what career they pursue.

Each school focuses on a specific course of study at its institution

The Ailey School offers a rigorous core curriculum of daily classes in ballet, Horton, and Graham-based Modern along with other dance techniques including jazz, West African, partnering, improvisation, and more. Every year there are several opportunities for students to perform and there is also a choreography showcase where they present their own work. Beyond the core-curriculum of liberal arts courses, many students often declare an academic major from the wide array of majors offered at Fordham.

In short, it’s the best of both worlds.
