Contemporary Jazz: Dancing in Motion with Salim “Slam” Gauwloos
Wednesday, July 10, 2024 (7–8:30pm)
A fusion of ballet, modern and jazz, Slam’s unique style explores a wide range of organic, often angular, movements inspired by the Graham technique with a a strong base in classical technique. Slam’s classes emphasize artistry and musicality while challenging dancers to move in new, unconventional ways with a focus on breathwork.
The class will start with a warm-up of modern-influenced, ballet-based exercises that focus on proper execution and alignment. Participants will then dive into learning Slam’s original choreography, broken down and demonstrated for clarity.
This workshop is recommended for students who have a basic understanding of classical vocabulary and previous experience with jazz and/or modern dance techniques.
