The Ailey School is thrilled to participate in Danzainfiera 2023, a 3-day dance event taking place in Florence, Italy from February 24 to 26, 2023.
Location of events: Fortezza da Basso, Firenze, V.le Filippo Strozzi, 1, 50129 Firenze
The Ailey School Co-Director and Master Instructor of the Horton Technique, Mr. Tracy Inman, and Ms. Michela Boschetto, Assistant to Mr. Inman and Ailey School ballet faculty, will offer auditions, an "Ailey-inspired" Horton technique Masterclass, and a special "Ailey School Experience". Classes and auditions are accompanied by live music provided by Ailey School musician, Michael Mustafa Ulmer.
Audition Registration Instructions
- Students must select the event or audition they wish to attend and pay the fee in advance on the Danzainfiera website at the links provided below.
- Students attending an audition must also complete the Ailey School Mandatory Audition Form. Students will not be fully registered for an audition unless they complete both registrations (on the Danzainfiera and The Ailey School websites).
- Students attending an audition will receive an email confirmation of their payment from Danzainfiera, and an email from The Ailey School after their audition registration is confirmed.
- NOTE: Your Audition registration cannot be confirmed until you have completed both steps 1 & 2!
Ailey School Experience - SOLD OUT!

Two back-to-back classes in ballet and Horton (60 minutes each) will give students first-hand experience of the codified training methods taught at The Ailey School. Ballet mistress Michela Boschetto, and Horton Instructor, Tracy Inman, will offer these classes which will also provide insightful information about The Ailey School's various training programs.

This 90-minute class will give students the opportunity to explore the ingenious technique of Lester Horton as seen through the masterful vision of Alvin Ailey. Today, The Ailey School continues to uphold the Horton technique through its codified teaching methods. Master Instructor Tracy Inman, Alumni of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Co-Director of The Ailey school, will offer an exciting class that will give students in-depth experience of the dynamic creativity of Lester Horton and Alvin Ailey.

Student Visa Instructions
Student Visa Instructions
Thank you for your interest in the full-time training programs at The Ailey School! As an international student, you must obtain an F-1 Student Visa if you plan to enroll for the full-time programs in the 2023-2024 academic year. (Students attending only the Summer Intensive DO NOT need to apply for a student visa, and will be contacted with instructions on how to enter the U.S. in the correct visa status after they are accepted.)
The Ailey School Director of Admissions will assist you with the visa process. It is not possible to apply for an F-1 student visa without the assistance of The Ailey School or before you have been accepted! In order to apply for an F-1 visa at the U.S. Consulate in your home country you will need a form called the "I-20 Certificate of Eligibility for F-1 Nonimmigrant Student Status", which you can only obtain from The Ailey School Admissions Office after fulfilling the requirements listed below.
Getting Started
The process of obtaining an F-1 Student Visa can take several months. You will be required to obtain an I-20 Form from The Ailey School in order to apply for your visa at the U.S. consulate in your home country. The Director of Admissions will assist accepted students through this process. We recommend you begin the process immediately after being accepted to The Ailey School.
The final deadline to submit documentation for your I-20 form for the 2023-2024 school year is May 1, 2023. Please submit the following items to The Ailey School Admissions Office by email admissions@alvinailey.org
- $50 International Student fee (one-time fee payable after you have been accepted)
- A copy of the identification page of your passport

The Ailey School Declaration of Finances form explaining your financial resources

Submit the required financial documentation demonstrating the ability to cover the costs of tuition, fees and living expenses for the first year of study.
(Please refer to the International Student Cost of Living Chart to see how much you need to document and what type of documentation is acceptable.)
NOTE: All financial documentation must be in English and must indicate the U.S. dollar equivalent of whatever type of currency is reflected in the documentation. Statements that are not in English will not be accepted.
Upon acceptance to The Ailey School
If you are accepted to The Ailey School for the 2023-2024 school year, the Admissions Officer will notify you by email and you will be sent further instructions on how to proceed with applying for your F-1 Student Visa.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are not accepted to The Ailey School, all of your personal financial documentation and passports will be destroyed. We do not keep this information on file for those students who are not accepted.
