New Ailey II Artistic Director & Return to Live Performance

In the summer of 2021 the Company performed in the first ever BAAND Together Dance Festival alongside Ballet Hispánico, American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, and Dance Theatre of Harlem at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park. 

In September, Francesca Harper was named the new Artistic Director of Ailey II and Lakey Evans-Peña became Rehearsal Director, and the company returned to rehearsals at the Joan Weill Center for Dance after being on hiatus due to the Coronavirus pandemic. 

Robert Battle was celebrated as a Dance Magazine Award Honoree. 

After the Coronavirus pandemic put Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performances on hold, the Company was able to return to the New York City Center stage for the first time in two years. 

Jamar Roberts retired as a dancer in the Company and remains a part of Ailey as Resident Choreographer.
